Basic Info
Name:Rey Curtis
Birthdate:1963-12-16
Location:New York City
Bio
Name: Reynaldo "Rey" Curtis
Age: 42 (Dec. 16, 1963)
Height: 6'2, physically fit.

Rey was born to a working-class family in the Bronx. His mother was Peruvian and his father was Puerto Rican. He's got two sisters, and family is very important to him. He's devoutly Catholic and relatively conservative politically. He made his way out of the Bronx, and onto the force with no aid from anyone, and has been known to dislike policies like affirmative action.

His wife, Debra, died of Multiple Sclerosis in 2000 and he was left to raise their three daughters, Ana, who is now 16, Teresa, 13, and Marisol, 10.

He joined Manhattan Homicide in 1995, replacing Mike Logan. He was very much Logan's opposite. Conservative and by the book, Curtis is the kind who has no time for nonsense in the workplace. Over his nearly five years there, he became close friends with his partner and mentor, Lennie Briscoe. When he cheated on his sick wife with a college student, it was Briscoe who was there to talk him through it, giving him advice from his own failed marriages. Later, when Briscoe's daughter died, he depended on Rey for support. Before Briscoe's death, Rey's kids called him "Uncle Lennie."

Rey left Homicide in 1999, to tend to his deteriorating wife. He still feels guilty over her death, as if God was punishing her for his infidelity. By mid-2000, Debra died, leaving Rey to take care of their three daughters. He stayed home a few weeks, trying to figure out what to do next. Needing income and missing the job, Rey went back to the profession he knew best.

No longer in Homicide, he took a desk job at the 33rd precinct so that he could be home as much as possible for his girls. His mother and sisters, as well as Debra's sisters, helped care for them when he was at work.

In 2003, Rey became a desk sergeant, eager for the money to send his girls to a private Catholic school as well as provide the things that he and Debra had always wanted to for them.

A few years later, in 2005, Rey began to grow antsy after so much time in the office. Midway through that year, he went back to the field, as a Detective-Sergeant in Manhattan Narcotics. While he was able to provide more for his daughters, being paid at a sergeant's rate, it made taking care of his girls more difficult. His daughters now stay at his sister-in-law's most week days and he spends the weekends with them, as well as any time he has after work on weekdays.

Personality/likes/dislikes: As stated before, Rey is a by-the-book cop, and conservative politically. He is a family man, despite his past indiscretion. His mother, sisters and sister-in-law have been vital to helping him raise his kids when his wife died. He still loves his wife, and carries around his wedding ring in his pocket. He enjoys sports, often playing basketball when he gets time, and lifting weights. He is not obsessed about being fit, but enjoys working off steam healthily. He likes to read, usually action-adventure novels by the likes of Clive Cussler, Dean Koontz and Tom Clancy. When his daughters were younger, he would read to them.

Quirks/Weaknesses: The only kind of ice cream Rey will eat is vanilla. Rey can appear to be arrogant at times, especially when leading, and can be a hard-ass, but it's mostly because of his insecurities. Having been called "rookie" for five years on Homicide, he is sensitive to having his abilities questioned.
